What is HAMWWA?

High Altitude Mountain Workers Welfare Association (HAMWWA) is a nonprofit, non-political and non-governmental organization registers in 2007 having a register number 1328/064/065. HAMWWA conducts several support programs for the overall welfare of the families of the high hill and mountain workers. Currently, the organization has focused its activities in mountainous districts especially Solukhumbu, Samkhuwasabha, Taplejung, Khotang, Okhaldhunga Rukum Dolakhaa, and Rasuwa. However, it renders humanitarian supports to the needy, helpless and poor children of other mountainous districts as well. Working as a porter or tourist guide is the age of long profession of Sherpas living in a mountainous region. Although they are used to climbing ups and downs of the hills and mountains in a course if the work, the large section of these workers are still unaware of their occupational health and safety. As a result, they face many problems, challenges and meet with difficult situations. They are most often exposed to dreadful accidents, injuries and sometimes even death in the course of their profession. Considering this bitter fact, HAWWMA organized multi-dimensional programs/activities I.e. Skill development, Training, Educational Support Program and Community Support Programs to reduce the risk and vulnerability of the mountain workers and their families. Besides this, the organization has been providing possible support to the poor, helpless, disabled persons and also to those who have lost their family members and relatives caused by sickness, accident and other kinds of risks while performing their works.
